As an author her books include: Jesse Jackson: America’s David, an unauthorized biography; And Still We Rise: Interviews with 50 African-American Role Models; No I Won’t Shut Up! 30 Years of Telling It Like It Is; Out of Hell & Living Well: Healing From the Inside Out and in August 2007, she released her fifth book, called, Doing Good in the Hood: The Life, Leadership & Legacy of Bishop Alfred A. Owens, Jr.
Reynolds is also writing the official memoir of her mentor, Coretta Scott King for release in 2017. On April 4, 2014, Dr. Reynolds was inducted into the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers at the 29th Annual Board of Ministers and Laity at Morehouse College in Atlanta. The award recognized her life time of service walking into the footsteps of Dr. King.
In 2015, she was honored as Mother of the Year for the District of Columbia, an honor bestowed on her by the American Mothers Association, who represents in all 50 states.
She has more than 40 years of experience as a journalist/writer with major media institutions in America, such as NBC, Ebony and Essence magazines; The Chicago Tribune and CNN. In addition she was a Founding Start-Up Editor with USA Today where she was an editorial board member and columnist for more than 13 years. She has served as a religion columnist for the National Newspaper Publishers Association and is currently an occasional columnist for the Washington Post and blogs on issues dealing with ethics, social values and spirituality.
Dr. Reynolds is also an educator. She has held the Jessie Ball DuPont Chair in Journalism at Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA and was a Freedom Forum Scholar in journalism at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee and has taught Contemporary Issues: The role of Faith and Spirituality in American Journalism and Mass Media at the Howard University School of Communications. She has taught prophetic ministry at the Howard University School of Divinity and the Black Presence in the Bible and Eschatology at the Calvary Bible Institute. Presently she is an online teacher of pneumatology at the Kingdom Building Equipping School headquartered in Norfolk, VA and an online teacher of eschatology.
In 2009, Dr. Reynolds was a Visiting Scholar at Central State University where she directed the Honors Program and launched a TAG (Talented American Griots project) that matched scholars and journalists with students. She was also awarded a Nieman Fellowship in Journalism at Harvard University, the second highest honor in the field next to the Pulitzer Prize. In her community, she was listed in the 2010 inaugural issue of Who’s Who in Black Washington and in 2011 hailed for outstanding journalism by the Prince George’s (MD) County Council.
Born in Columbus, OH, she received her BA in journalism from The Ohio State University, her Master’s Degree from Howard University School of Divinity in 1992 and her Doctorate in Ministry from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH in 1998. She also has been awarded honorary doctorates in humane letters from Shenandoah University and her alma mater, Ohio State University.
Arch-Bishop Alfred A. Owens, Jr. ordained her an elder at the Greater Mt. Calvary Holy Church in Washington, DC in 1995. For 20 years she had been conducting an anti-addiction program in the District of Columbia which has helped scores of women break free from alcohol drugs and other addictive behavior.
